Sustainable In-country Capacities and Inclusive locally-led Initiatives for Peaceful Natural Resource Management and a Resilient Fergana Valley

Kyrgyzstan Stability and Justice
November 2023
November 2025

The 24-month project aims to improve the sustainable use of water and land resources in the context of climate change to help mitigate tensions and build trust across the densely populated Fergana Valley. The Syr Darya River Basin, so vital to the region, is affected by competition for resources, inefficient natural resource management (NRM) and climate change. Acted will empower local civil society actors to promote conflict sensitive NRM in Kyrgyzstan (Batken Region) and Tajikistan (Sughd Region) where tensions have been highest in recent years. Through a principles-based approach, capacity-building, technical assistance, and advocacy activities, the project will benefit local CSOs, NRM stakeholders, and resident communities in riparian communities relying on shared transboundary natural resources, enhancing NRM efficiency, local resilience, and local capacities for peace.
