You will be in charge of
The proposal contingent Rapid Response Lead will supervise all rapid response related activities within the USAID-funded Sahel Regional Resilience Activity (RRA). RRA is designed to provide leadership and guidance to a range of resilience activities that will strengthen individual, household, and formal and informal institutions, and networks, to deliver improved natural resource management and the adoption of sustainable agriculture practices. As part of the technical leadership team of the RRA, this key staff member will provide guidance to project activities related to Rapid Response, including humanitarian response, disaster risk management, and integrated resilience, while integrating collaboration, learning, and adapting (CLA) throughout.
The Rapid Response Lead will direct programming together with others from the project leadership team, with implementation covering Burkina Faso, Chad, and Mauritania. As such, this position may be based in Dakar, Senegal or Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso with expected frequent travel to other coverage areas.
Duties & Responsabilities
Design:
- Spearhead the design of all Rapid Response programming to be contained within the Leader with Associate (LWA) mechanism, including closely framing in alignment with the overall resilience focus of the programming;
- Work closely with other component leads to ensure cross cutting integration and seamless rollout of both rapid response and longer-term support to communities.
- Ensure that appropriate measures are included in Rapid Response mechanism and activities, including budgeting, logistical planning, etc, to eventually translate into impactful and effective interventions;
- Leverage demonstrated experience in relevant resilience technical areas including food security, agricultural production, market systems development, WASH, gender and youth integration, nutrition, and social behavior change to inform design.
Implementation
- Support the definition of approaches and methodologies across the different projects by developing and monitoring use of common memo, SOP, tools, as well as creating opportunities for experience sharing and learning;
- Ensure that relevant technical quality and standards are considered and respected during projects’ implementation;
- Ensure appropriate capacity building among staff and partners;
- Coordinate and collaborate with other stakeholders through regular attendance at internal and external technical and round table meetings;
- Control the work plans and monitor the implementation status of the projects;
- Anticipate and mitigate risks and issues, and trouble-shoot any unforeseen challenges during the projects’ implementation;
- Participate in the procurement and budget planning processes;
- Undertake regular field visits to provide technical guidance and supervision as well as regularly monitor the progress of projects’ activities;
- Where relevant, liaise with Chief of Party on project updates, including site visits and other communication, in coordination with relevant internal and external units.
