The European Union supports ACTED in advancing women’s rights through enhanced protection and self-employment

April 24-25, 2018, Tashkent – The kick-off meeting of the newly started project on advancing women’s rights through enhanced protection and self-employment in Uzbekistan will be organized for three partner civil society organizations: “Mehr Kuzda”, “Oydin Nur” Center, “Rakhmdillik” in order to plan and prepare the detailed framework of activities and agree on common goals and results. The project is funded by the European Union in Uzbekistan.

During 2 days, the three partners, under the moderation of ACTED’s project team, will draw the work plan of this two-year project, including: mode of operation, training courses, dissemination of the results, evaluation of the activities expected to be implemented in ten districts of Uzbekistan (Yunusabad, Mirabad, Sirgily and Uchtepa districts in Tashkent City; Jondor, Peshku, and Karakul districts in Bukhara province; Pastargom, Nurabad and Urgut districts in Samarkand province).

The primary target groups of beneficiaries are; women committees and support services, including civil society organizations (CSOs), as well as rural population, local and national authorities. The project is expected to directly benefit at least 2,450 rural women survivors and girls in the target areas. Moreover, final indirect beneficiaries of the project will include the entire female population of the target districts – approximately 1,082,000 females.

“We appreciate this important initiative and the financial support of the European Union in Uzbekistan, to strengthen the role of women civil society organisations in promoting human rights and gender equality”, said Fernand Pillonel, Country Director, ACTED, “and we are putting all our efforts and expertise to strengthen the capacity of civil society to prevent domestic violence by enhancing and protecting the economic and social rights of women in Uzbekistan. The support of international agencies and donor organizations plays a vital role to reinforce this process”.
