South Sudan

Operational since 2007, and with an ongoing presence in 5 of 10 states, Acted South Sudan focuses on responding to complex displacement crises and building resilience in emergency. To address basic needs and build resilience to future shocks, Acted South Sudan implements in the Rapid Displacement Management, Camp Management, Food Security and Livelihoods, Infrastructure, WASH and Protection sectors.

South Sudan is the world’s newest country and exists in a fragile post-conflict setting following a peace deal between parties to a civil war which ended in 2018. Localized and political violence persists, combining with climate shocks to drive displacement throughout the country, and deteriorate food security. Nearly half the country experiences crisis-levels or worse food insecurity in 2024, a reality exacerbated by rampant inflation and political instability. Compounding internal drivers are the effects of the war in Sudan, which has already spurred the displacement of nearly 1 million people to South Sudan and further stressed already limited resources in country.

Acted has been on the ground since 2007 providing a combination of lifesaving emergency assistance and development programming focused on building resilience in emergency, designed through a community-based model focused on accountability to affected populations.
