Ethiopia

Ethiopia is located in the Horn of Africa and borders with Sudan and South Sudan to the west; Eritrea to the north and north-east; Djibouti and Somaliland to the east; Somalia and Kenya to the south. The country is among the fastest growing non-oil producing economies in Africa. However, Ethiopia’s geographic and demographic profile makes it highly vulnerable to hazards such as drought, flooding and disease outbreaks.
Ethiopia continues to face significant humanitarian and development challenges, widespread food insecurity and malnutrition due to recurrent drought impact; and disease outbreaks mainly due to poor WASH facilities in IDP sites and in drought and flood-impacted communities.

Acted in Ethiopia

Acted has been present in Ethiopia since early 2020, with a coordination office in Addis Ababa and supports partner operations in field bases in Somali, Tigray and Southern Nations Nationalities People’s Republic (SNNPR).

The level of humanitarian needs in Ethiopia will continue to remain high through 2020. Acted’s strategy, in line with the Grand Bargain commitment of Localisation, aims to continue to work with national implementing partners to deliver humanitarian aid as well as build the resilience of communities.

With funding from the French Government, Acted will provide food security and livelihood support to 14,000 people in Liben and Dawa Zone of Somali Region of Ethiopia. This will be through unconditional cash transfer as well as seed system support.
