Such infrastructure can improve environmental conditions and therefore people’s health and quality of life. It also supports a green economy, creates job opportunities and enhances biodiversity.

The standard activities under this thematic area include:

  • Green building construction/retrofitting, incl. green walls and roofs, energy efficiency retrofitting;
  • Solar panel installations on public/social infrastructure;
  • Promoting green cities (urban forests, green alleys and green school yards);
  • Permeable pavement and storm water management to improve water availability and reduce flooding, in particular in urban environments;
  • Rainwater harvesting for public structures;
  • Installation or rehabilitation of wind or water turbines for energy generation;
  • Water-efficiency and conservation installations at public water sources;
  • Support for establishment, expansion or retrofitting of green transportation systems.
