Sustainable Infrastructure

Construction, rehabilitation or retrofitting of infrastructure (beyond household level) for production of green energy or for more efficient resource use and consumption. Such infrastructure can improve environmental conditions and therefore people’s health and quality of life. It also supports a green economy, creates job opportunities and enhances biodiversity.

The standard activities under this thematic area include:

  • Green building construction/retrofitting, incl. green walls and roofs, energy efficiency retrofitting;
  • Solar panel installations on public/social infrastructure;
  • Promoting green cities (urban forests, green alleys and green school yards);
  • Permeable pavement and storm water management to improve water availability and reduce flooding, in particular in urban environments;
  • Rainwater harvesting for public structures;
  • Installation or rehabilitation of wind or water turbines for energy generation;
  • Water-efficiency and conservation installations at public water sources;
  • Support for establishment, expansion or retrofitting of green transportation systems.
