Multi sectorial recovery response in earthquake affected hard to reach areas in Morocco

April 2024
March 2025

The proposed project aims to respond to the current and medium-term needs of the population affected by the September 2023 earthquake in the provinces of El-Haouz, Chichaoua, and Taroudant in Morocco by resuming access to school infrastructure, Women and Girls Friendly Spaces (WGFS), and basic WASH infrastructure through rehabilitation and the provision of semi-permanent structures. The project aims to fill some gaps in the Moroccan government’s approach to reconstruction and rehabilitation by ensuring resumed access to essential infrastructure in those villages not prioritised by government interventions, such as hard-to-reach areas. Additionally, the project will contribute to enabling the community to reconstruct safer houses through a “Build Back Better” approach, combining parasismic reconstruction techniques and traditional architectural culture preservation, through the training of local workforce.
