On 28 March 2025, a devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar, killing more than 2,000 people, injuring nearly 4,000 and displacing thousands more. Buildings, roads, schools and markets were destroyed, and power and communication networks cuts are hampering rescue efforts.
Present in the region since 2008, Acted was one of the first organisations to arrive in the epicentre area, just a few hours after the earthquake. Thanks to already established logistics and local networks, rapid needs assessments and the distribution of financial aid to households were launched. But the needs are immense. Rapid financial support is essential to prevent the disaster getting any worse.
People are suffocating. It's over 38 degrees now in the affected areas, and many families are sleeping outside for fear of further tremors. Rescue operations and the protection of survivors are urgent.
