Emergency Response in Myanmar – Act Now

On Friday, March 28, a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck northwestern Myanmar, especially Sagaing (16km from the epicentre) and Mandalay (19km from the epicentre). This is the strongest quake in the region in over 200 years. The tremors were felt across several cities, including Mandalay, Kyaukse, Pyin Oo Lwin, and Shwebo - and even triggered the collapse of a 30-storey building under construction in Bangkok.

Over 1.2 million people have been affected within a 20 km radius. The death toll has already reached 140, with thousands more injured and in urgent need of help.

Acted has been working in Myanmar since 2008 and is now mobilizing its teams for an emergency response. Rapid needs assessments are underway to deliver immediate relief: access to clean water, emergency shelter, essential household items, and protection for the most vulnerable.
