Jordan Sustainable and inclusive growth
June 2023
May 2026

This project aims to establish an integrated, biological wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in Azraq municipality to increase the availability of safe, treated wastewater for agricultural purposes, whilst increasing public awareness of sustainable sanitation solutions to support adoption by farmers and replication of decentralised models throughout Jordan. As a result, the entire population of Azraq will benefit from sufficient quantities of safe groundwater and reduced health risks related to polluted groundwater; at least 10 farmers, entrepreneurs, local authority and operators have developed plans to derive economic benefits through the reuse of treated wastewater; at least 150 water professionals, farmers, entrepreneurs, and community stakeholders are aware of the potential benefits of using treated wastewater.
