Building democratic futures: supporting voter education and public participation in BARMM

Philippines Strengthening Institutions and Civil Society
October 2024
May 2025

This 8-months project aims to increase awareness amongst Cotabato citizens on their democratic rights and how to exercise them ahead of the BARMM transition elections in 2025. The project will first focus on designing a voter education campaign in partnership with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC), before rolling out a voter education campaign in Cotabato City. To complement the face-to-face outreach sessions, a public information campaign through radio broadcasting and social media platforms will be conducted based on materials approved by Comelec. The project will directly benefit 740 community members of the voter education information sessions from across the 37 Barangays of Cotabato City of which approximately 444 will be male and 296 female. It is estimated that 3,944,692 individuals (the entire population of BARMM excluding Sulu) will indirectly benefit from the project.
