Uzbekistan Strengthening Institutions and Civil Society
January 2025
January 2028

This 36-month project, part of EQUALITY Phase II, aims to contribute to the promotion and protection of women's rights in Uzbekistan by strengthening civil society organizations (CSOs) to advance gender equality (Objective). This will be achieved by strengthening CSOs' roles in preventing and responding to gender-based violence (GBV), promoting women's economic empowerment, and fostering gender-inclusive participation.

Specifically, the project will enhance CSOs' effectiveness as frontline service providers in preventing and responding to GBV through improved accessibility, capacity building, and awareness-raising initiatives. Furthermore, the project will support vulnerable women in generating sustainable income and accessing the labor market to strengthen their economic empowerment. Finally, the project will enhance the capacities of local CSOs to participate in and influence decision-making processes on gender legislation and advocacy at local and national levels.

The project will prioritize the Qashqadarya and Tashkent regions, including Tashkent City, while maintaining a nationwide impact. A key focus will be on addressing the specific needs and challenges faced by women in remote areas through a civil society-driven approach.
