Mayotte press release

Acted to deploy a first batch of 700 tents in Mayotte from Christmas onwards

December 21, 2024 – Teams from the French NGO Acted have chartered a special cargo plane to bring the first batch of 700 tents to the island, which should be operational on the ground by Christmas Day.

The installation of these tents will provide immediate accommodation for almost 5,000 people.

At the same time, community kitchens will be made available to families housed by Acted teams.

These tents will be installed in the most destroyed areas in close consultation with the French authorities and according to the needs of the local populations.

Acted also has more than 10,000 additional tents to accommodate nearly 60,000 people, and is in the process of finalizing the financial backing needed to deploy them before December 31.

Acted’s teams are continuing their analysis of emergency humanitarian needs in the field, to ensure that the resources deployed match the immediate needs of the population.
