After the island of Mayotte was hit by tropical cyclone Chido on Saturday 14 December – the most violent cyclone to hit the island in nearly a century – the damage is stark: many roads have been destroyed, the electricity supply has been cut off, telecommunications services have been damaged and a large proportion of the population has no access to emergency services and remains isolated from any help.
Acted and Impact Initiatives have joined forces to develop an initial map of the damage caused by the cyclone, based on the analysis of satellite images.

Acted is mobilising to help the populations affected by this disaster, particularly to provide emergency shelter solutions – 10,000 tents will be distributed in the next few days to house 50,000 people.
