Six months on: Indonesia’s resilience in action

In the wake of the earthquake/tsunami event which struck Sulawesi Province, Indonesia in September 2018, ACTED has been supporting local Indonesian partners to lead the response providing essential support in terms of housing, and life saving water and sanitation.

4,700 shelter kits have been distributed to local communities, to ensure that people who have lost their houses are able to live in dignified conditions until they can return.

The health of thousands of families was put at risk following the decimation of water infrastructure. ACTED and its partners has been providing water to displaced families through water trucking, the distribution of both hygiene and baby kits, and the establishment of community water tanks and latrines. This has ensured that those displaced do not have to sacrifice their hygiene and dignity due to limited water access.

4,700 hygiene kits distributed
1,000 baby kits distributed
2,700 households received water for 60 days
7,770 sensitized on hygiene
4,700 shelter kits distributed
160 latrines constructed

Through coordination with other actors, and through local partners on the ground, we are reaching three times more families than intended at the end of our emergency support phase. Our team have also managed to collaborate further with several other local organizations to ensure that we are able to cover gaps that still exist especially in the most remote areas.
