The implementation of a WFP Asssistance programme

Lebanon Humanitarian Action
September 2020
March 2021

The project will be implemented in Bourj Hammoud and Karm el Zeitoun, two low-income neighborhoods heavily affected by the Beirut explosion, which occurred at a time when Lebanon was already coping with a multifaceted crisis of economic contraction, increasing poverty rates and rising prices of basic commodities. In this context, WFP and ACTED will aim at addressing the immediate food needs of the families affected by the disaster in two areas of the city already compounded by pre-existing vulnerabilities. For a duration of 6 months, ACTED will support WFP in the provision of cash-based transfers to the vulnerable population, through 1) supporting the process of developing the payment lists for the beneficiaries; 2) carrying out the distribution of E-cards to the beneficiaries; and 3) conducting data collection and monitoring activities. It is expected that a total of 5,000 HHs will be reached by WFP assistance, with priority inclusion of elderly people, people with reduced mobility and/or with special needs, as well as women and children.
