In Gao and Ménaka, ACTED will implement a 2-year intervention that will allow a sustainable response to the chronic vulnerabilities of crises-affected populations of the area. The project will meet the needs of farmers, fishermen (training, input distribution) and herders (vaccination campaigns). In addition, the intervention will provide enhanced economic support focused on agro-pastoral resilience through cash for work (irrigation), but also through the implementation of income generating activities and the development of village savings and credit associations systems at the community level. In order to ease existing tensions around the issue of sharing natural resources, ACTED will rehabilitate water points, and support the organization of discussion workshops on these issues. Climate-smart techniques will be transmitted through the Farmers’ Field School approach and through the distribution of improved ovens. Finally, ACTED will support early warning systems in order to strengthen prevention and response to natural disasters at community level.
