Life-saving Multi-Sectoral Assistance to Drought-Affected Communities in Somali Region (Envelope II. Responding to severe acute malnutrition in drought-affected areas)

Ethiopia Humanitarian Action
February 2023
January 2024

In response to the drought situation, WHH, ACTED (with support from RACIDA), and MCMDO will propose an 12-month area-based multisectoral response that will save lives and provide support to IDPs and host communities in Filtu Woreda, Liben Zone of Somali Region. The partners will respond in the WASH, Health, Nutrition, Agriculture, Food and CCCM sectors, to reach an estimated 100,000 individuals. The WASH component will entail hygiene promotion (33,000 individuals), construction or upgrade of 60 toilets (3,000 individuals), distribution of WASH NFIs (3,000 individuals) and dignity kits (1,500 individuals) and installation of rainwater harvesting and water storage systems (6 community institutions). With respect to Agriculture, ACTED will provide livestock fodder, MPC to drought-affected pastoralist households, and training in improved grazing strategies and destocking methods. ACTED will also facilitate a light CCCM component to ensure a coordinated, participatory, and accountable response across the sectors.
