Improving waste collection mechanisms and community awareness on waste management to foster sustainable sanitary conditions for Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar Sadar refugees camps

Bangladesh Humanitarian Action
September 2023
February 2024

Violence in Rakhine State led 700,000 Rohingya people to flee Myanmar and cross the Bangladesh border in late 2017. Since then, Rohingya people live in a mega camp in Ukhiya and Teknaf Upazilas (33 camps). Waste management in the camp represents a big issue. The project aims at:
• Improving waste collection and management systems in camp (Specific Objective 1)
• Promoting awareness on sanitary waste management methodologies for camp residents (Specific Objective 2)
The direct beneficiaries of the project will be 54 hygiene brigade volunteers.
The duration of the project is 6 months (04.09.2023 / 29.02.2024).
Activities will be implemented in Camps 3 and 4 of the Kutupalong Balukhali Expansion Site, Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.
