Journey back home: Thousands of displaced families return to Tirah valley

[ACTED News] Islamabad – As a result of fighting from January to March 2013 in the Tirah valley of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, Pakistan, a large number of people were displaced. After military operations to stabilize the local law and order situation in Tirah valley, people started to return to their villages.

22,787 people from Tirah Valley had returned home by 26th May with the help of the Government of Pakistan. This represents around 30% of the population of the area currently in displacement in other parts of the region. This is the second of two phases; the first in October 2013 saw 56,000 people return to their villages.

ACTED is supporting dignified and informed returns to the area by providing returnees with relief assistance to meet their immediate needs as well as activities to restore infrastructure and livelihoods in the areas of return with support from DFID.
