Yemen: ACTED will improve school sanitation in rural areas

SANA’A [ACTED News] - Half of Yemeni public schools lack restrooms, according to the Yemeni ministry of education. This is an issue ACTED will tackle in rural areas of the Central-Western governorates of Ibb and Raymah by building and rehabilitating water systems in 8 local schools. Through these efforts, it is expected that the transmission of waterborne diseases such as diarrhea will decrease among pupils. In addition, as young girls who reach puberty often leave schools when no proper sanitation facilities are available, such activities could contribute to increase schooling for girls. This project is supported by the European Commission Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department.
