Watershed management to reduce disaster risks in Tajikistan

ACTED is working to minimize the exposure of people and property to natural disasters by contributing to building the sustainability and resilience of local communities.

In Ak-Suu watershed, ACTED, is implementing a series of farming, forestry, land reclamation and hydraulic engineering works to reduce the level of land degradation occurring in the watershed, especially in its middle and upper zones.

ACTED also works in a small rural mountainous village, Bobuchak, to build the resilience of the local population to the major natural disasters by setting up a “living palisade” consisting of native seedlings and shrubs such as tree elms and dog rose as a barrier to mudflows.
