CAGAYAN DE ORO [ACTED News] – To ensure a better response to shelter needs in the aftermath of the Sendong tropical storm in the Philippines, the Shelter Cluster, of which ACTED is an active member through the REACH program, conducted a technical and socio-economic assessment of housing needs between 22 and 28 January. The assessment notably concluded that the storm had exacerbated the incidence of poverty, and recommends that people living in temporary shelters and evacuation shelters are to be prioritized in the rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts. The Sendong storm has affected some 1.1 million people since it hit northern Mindanao from 16 to 18 December last year.
