Two Central African humanitarian workers working for ACTED killed in the Central African Republic on 7th September

Press Release

Paris, 9th September 2013 – The humanitarian NGO ACTED confirms the death of two of its local employees in the Central African Republic (CAR), who were killed on Saturday 7th September as they were returning to ACTED’s base in Bossangoa, in the North-West of the CAR, in the context of an evacuation procedure conducted due to the escalating violence in the area.

The two employees were returning from a construction site that was set up by ACTED teams in the area when they were stopped by armed men along the road, 3 kilometres from Bossangoa, before being killed.

At this stage, ACTED is gathering information on the precise conditions of the murder of its two employees. They were working as construction site supervisor and sensitizer in the context of school construction, health centre rehabilitation and water point drilling programmes for local populations. The Central African employees, one of which originating from the region, knew the area well and were clearly identified and identifiable as humanitarian workers when they were attacked.

ACTED and all its teams are shocked by these killings and wish to convey their sincere condolences to their families and friends.

ACTED strongly condemns this indescribable action and asks relevant authorities to shed light on the conditions of the death of its two employees.
