Support to most vulnerable households affected by floods in Northern and Eastern Sri Lanka

Yearly, Northeast Sri Lanka witnesses heavy rains, leading to recurrent floods: in November 2015 and January 2016, 38,000 families were affected. In response, ACTED, Oxfam, and Handicap International, started a six month project to reinforce vulnerable households' capacities to cope with cyclical floods. Unconditional Cash transfers will allow 1200 extremely vulnerable food insecure households, with a focus on single women, disabled, and elderly people, who have been affected by floods to address immediate food security needs, repair flood-damaged shelters, and also cover their short-term livelihood. This project will also promote the inclusion of beneficiaries into housing and social protection schemes.
