Support to conflict-affected children in Gaza
At an age critical for their development, young children in Gaza have been left psychologically traumatized by the hostilities of 2008 and 2009. Many attend conflict-damaged schools on empty stomachs because of the several obstacles to reconstruction and economic recovery. For the past four months, ACTED has been providing a daily hot meal to 1,530 children in nine kindergartens in the Gaza Strip with the financial support of USAID. ACTED has also trained 61 teachers and 20 volunteers in psycho-social counselling, and organized daily game-play sessions. ACTED is continuing its programme for the children with beach visits during the summer holidays.
