Sunderbans Disaster Preparedness and Risk Mitigation Project

The entire Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna swamp delta has become an increasingly disaster prone area, highly vulnerable to frequent and extreme weather events.. High migration rates and human trafficking have empoverished capacities and the weather has forced people to live in makeshift mud constructions, putting their livelihoods and therefore food security at risk. The 18-month programme that will impact nearly 86,000 individuals will consist in training to and evaluating disaster preparedness through testing, use of first aid, search and rescue, and mock drills, in 24 villages, 20 schools. More than 70 masons will be trained.
