South Sudan : a new alarming situation
For the past six months, South Sudan has been the scene of massive population displacement fleeing conflict and violence in the North of the country and in Sudan. Approximately 68,000 refugees have already arrived in Doro and Jamam camps, Upper Nile State. The situation is particularly dire in the North-east of the country: in El Foj, 36,775 people have crossed the border and 20,000 are expected in the coming days, making a critical humanitarian situation even worse. ACTED and other humanitarian actors are mobilized to meet the basic needs of refugees: shelter, food, access to water, sanitation, etc. Despite enormous needs in this rural and isolated area, few actors are present in the field. The situation is a huge logistical challenge to ensure the daily supply of these populations, particularly because of the roads being cut off by rains. To face these massive arrivals, ACTED and other humanitarian actors are setting up and strengthening infrastructure by building new refugee camps.
