Providing better support to migration
ACTED contributes to developing support capacities to migration policy applied in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan by welcoming 5 government representatives in Europe
Several representatives on the governments of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan traveled to Paris and Brussels from 16 to 19 May to take part in round tables, notably with members of the European Commission, to discuss professional migration.
The visit, organized by ACTED, comes alongside a EuropeAid-supported ACTED project in both countries, which aims at developing economic activities and information available to populations in strong migration countries. The project’s objective is to optimize the benefit of such migration for the communities of origin, namely through money transfers, and to help migrants reintegrate on their return. Allowing an optimal and sustainable impact, the project includes capacity building for the competent authorities in each country of intervention, to help them develop and improve migrant support structures and mechanisms, before departure and return.
The latter part of the project is what brought the officials to Europe. For four days, members of the cabinet for the Tajik president and for the Kyrgyz Minister for Labor and Migrations could gather information and exchange on laws, current regulations, hosting systems at national and European levels, as well as on the question of European workers moving around the European Union. They were particularly interested in the issue of statistical data linked to migration – international protection, refugee resettlement, illegal immigration, political asylum, etc.
On their return, the officials should share information with their management, in order to shed light on their countries’ migratory policy.
