Pakistan: Significant rise in staple food prices across the country

ISLAMABAD [ACTED News] - The price of flour in Pakistan, a staple food source, increased for a third time in two weeks yesterday. The raise comes immediately after the month of Ramadan when food prices increase anyway, and this latest increase equates to around four Euro cents per kilogram of flour. This reflects wider price increases which the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics calculates as an increase of 1.15% per month since April 2012. Once again, the purchasing power of vulnerable communities in Pakistan has reduced, with obvious implications for already food insecure households.
