Pakistan: ACTED supports internally displaced persons in Kurram Agency

ISLAMABAD [ACTED News] - Families from Kurram Agency of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas are reluctant to return due to issues of insecurity, according to a recent survey by the Express Tribune. An estimated 6,643 families from Kurram Agency remain displaced across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while others continue to be displaced within Kurram. The longer this situation persists, the more exhausted existing coping strategies of the displaced families become. They are therefore increasingly vulnerable to food insecurity and less able to recover upon return. In this context, ACTED continues to provide support to displaced communities from Kurram Agency currently living in Kohat and Hangu. This support comes largely in terms of food security and water, sanitation and hygiene. In order to ensure their access to livelihood, ACTED also supports families returning, and still displaced in Kurram Agency, with the implementation of an early recovery livelihoods project.
