Pakistan: ACTED assists communities affected by severe flooding
ISLAMABAD [ACTED News] - Over 4.4 million people have been affected so far by this year’s floods according to estimates by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. The flooding caused by the monsoon has caused the deaths of 370 and injured a further 1,197 people in the provinces of Sindh, Balochistan and Punjab. The multi-sector initial rapid assessment of the affected districts in Punjab and Sindh revealed that 22% of the affected population has no shelter; 70% has limited access to food; 50% of farming households have experienced significant losses; and 53% of households do not have access to clean drinking water. In light of the widespread needs, ACTED is launching a rapid response to ensure food security; sanitation and hygiene; and shelter assistance to the affected communities.
