Looking Back, Thinking Ahead: Workers’ Rights and Labour Law Compliance in Cambodia

ACTED facilitates Workers Sabay Final Workshop to discuss project achievements and challenges

3 years into the EU- funded Workers Sabay pilot certification scheme, ACTED and local partner Cambodia Food and Service Workers’ Federation (CFSWF) brought together 30 hospitality employers, employees and organizations working in corporate social responsibility to discuss challenges faced by businesses, and how actors can work together to increase labour law compliance in Cambodia.

Workers Sabay (“Happy Workers”) certifies businesses that provide fair working conditions to their staff upon compliance with a voluntary Code of Conduct, based on Cambodian Labour Law.

Since 2014, 340 employers have benefited from the Workers Sabay scheme and 65 have been pre-certified or certified. 1,900 hospitality employees have also received outreach sessions on their rights and responsibilities in the workplace.

“It was incredibly insightful to get business’ feedback on our project activities and Code of Conduct- I really feel like they spoke their mind and gave us some valuable input for future project implementation” – Sophea, ACTED Deputy Technical Coordinator
