Investing in Community Learning Centres in Cambodia

Jessica joined the ACTED Cambodia team as part of the EU Aid Volunteers initiative, working in the field of communication. She tells about her first field visit after arriving in the country.

Last week, the new EUAV for Cambodia, Alice and Jessica, visited Prey Veng Province to see the EU funded Community Learning Centre (CLC) projects. This project seeks to break the cycle of exploitative labour practice and drug abuse through non-formal education. The CLCs have been set up so vulnerable young men and women can increase their skills through vocational training to obtain meaningful employment.

ACTED has established a model for the institution and management of CLCs and has introduced it to CLCs established by the Ministry of Education. ACTED has also provided materials and equipment, as well as training materials to the CLC teachers. The aim is to improve the capacity of the established Ministry of Education’s CLCs and provide quality vocational training and functional literacy nationwide.
