India: Clashes in Assam result in displacement of 200,000 people
KOLKATA [ACTED News] – For the last 5 days, clashes between ethnic minority groups in the Northeast Indian state of Assam have escalated, killing 40 and displacing some 200,000 people. The government has set up camps for families fleeing the violence, where people continue to live in miserable conditions, many without access to potable water or adequate food. The government has set a curfew and the army has orders to shoot on sight; ground transport has more or less come to a standstill. ACTED continues to monitor the situation with partner NEICORD.
