Emergency WASH support to returnees in Aweil West, Northern Bahr el Ghazal

In the months immediately before and after the January 2011 referendum in Sudan, up to 400,000 more refugees are expected to return to South Sudan from the North by July 2011. In these areas, the communities that returnees are integrating into are themselves vulnerable and lack access to basic services, particularly in water and sanitation. For a duration of 9 months, ACTED has planned to target four main returnee locations, representing 14,723 beneficiaries in Aweil West for emergency water, sanitation & hygiene activities – construction and rehabilitation of boreholes and latrines, and setting up and training water committees.
