Emergency shelter assistance to vulnerable populations affected by the May 2017 Chong-Alai earthquake in Southern Kyrgyzstan

This 6-month project will be implemented in five villages of Chong-Alai district (South Kyrgyzstan) affected by the earthquakes of 3rd and 5th May 2017. The objective of the project is to address immediate shelter needs of the earthquake-affected populations while improving their resilience to future earthquakes. To this end, 45 highly vulnerable households will be provided with building materials and direct supervision of emergency shelter construction and around 180 earthquake-affected households will benefit from technical assistance on Build Back Safer principles. Additionally, 20 masons and 7 civil servants will receive trainings on existing affordable para-seismic constructions and Disaster Risk Reduction mainstreaming, thus increasing their disaster resilience.
