Emergency response to support drought-affected pastoralists and agro-pastoralists through slaughter de-stocking and animal health interventions in Mandera County

A severe drought has affected the North of Kenya, threatening the food security and livelihood situation of a population highly reliant on livestock. This two-month project, in Mandera county, will target 500 selected beneficiary households belonging to local communities. ACTED will purchase livestock from these 500 HHs with cash, ensure that it is properly slaughtered and finally distribute the meat (2 Kgs per week) to 450 beneficiaries as an emergency response. At the same time, it will engage in sensitization and community mobilization activities in order to build the capacity of the community in terms of veterinary treatment and destocking.
