Emergency relief distributions in Benghazi

In partnership with the Italian NGO CESVI, ACTED has started emergency distributions for the populations of Benghazi two days ago. The French charity’s teams have been distributing domestic kits, hygiene kits, including soap and basic hygiene commodities, as well as food rations (pasta, rice and flour).

These items are still being distributed in several spontaneous settlements. Blankets and heating stoves will also be provided to the families living in makeshift shelters.

Combats are ongoing in the port of Ras Lanuf some 200 kilometers from Benghazi. As the fighting is closing in, the situation remains unstable and ACTED emergency team is standing by in the field to provide an immediate response, should there be further movements of internally displaced populations.

A second ACTED team is on the border between Libya and Tunisia to assess the humanitarian context and to follow the needs of the refugees, who continue to pour into the area day after day.
