Massive distribution in Osh (June 30th 2010)
ACTED has organized massive distributions in the most affected neighborhoods of Osh. On June 30th 2010, beneficiaries have received food as well as sanitary kits, tarpaulins and blankets.
Cash for Work activities to clean Osh city (June 30th 2010)
After the clean up of the bazar of Osh through Cash for Work activities, ACTED targets entirely burnt areas of the city. This work is indispensable before any reconstruction project.
Non food item distribution in Jalalabat (June 30th 2010)
ACTED has organized a non food item distribution in Jalalabat. 161 houses owned by Uzbeks have been burnt in the town of Jalalabat. On June 30th 2010, ACTED has distributed mattresses, sanitary kits, kitchens tools and tents while food distributions continue.
Food distributions in the neighborhood of Kurmajan Datka
ACTED participates to the United Nations policy that consists in distributing in a first time food to the whole population of the city of Osh and focusing in a second time exlusively on vulnerable populations. This policy has several interests: it avoids tensions between communities, it facilitates the identification of populations hosted by relatives and it prevents an increase of the food prices. While supporting the most conflict-affected areas, ACTED distributes food in the multicultural neighborhood of Kurmajan Datka where live together Uzbeks, Kyrgyzs and Russians. Commodities are delivered in places used as stocks and are distributed directly to the families by the community leaders.
Assessment of the needs in the most affected neighborhoods of Osh (June 28th 2010)
ACTED teams conduct assessment to establish lists of beneficiaries in the neighborhoods of Alymbek Dakta, near the bazar, and Furkat. These neighborhoods among the most affected of the city were still recently inaccessible. The distributions should start on June 29th 2010.
Cleaning of the streets of Osh in the framework of Cash for Work activities (June 26th 2010)
ACTED has set up Cash for Work activities during which beneficiaries have cleaned the streets of Osh. The Cash for Work scheme allows, through the payment of salaries, to support financially vulnerable populations and to realize works of public interest.
Hygiene kits distribution in an IDP camp (June 26th 2010)
ACTED has distributed, with the support of UNICEF, hygiene kits to the families living in the camp of Atikek near Osh. This distribution is in line with the food and water distributions started last week to improve the living conditions in IDP camps.
Sanitation activities in an IDP camp (June 24th 2010)
ACTED is working to improve the living conditions of IDPs in the spontaneous settlements. After the first food distributions, ACTED has started sanitation activities and is securuing access to potable water, such as in the camp of Aktilek, where a water point and latrines are being built.
New food distributions in Osh (June 24th 2010)
ACTED has organized on June 24th, 2010 a massive food distribution for 10,000 people in the neighborhood of Dostuk in Osh, with the support of WFP.
Food distributions in Och (June 21th 2010)
Dostuk quarter in Osh: an ACTED employee presents the distribution of flour and oil to the inhabitants of the neighborhood. The local comitee is in charge of listing needs and the most vulnerable groups, while food is distributed street by street, with the support of local representatives.
Preparing food distributions (June 21th 2010)
On June 20th afternoon, 60 tons of flour and oil provided by the WFP arrived in ACTED's emergency warehouse.
