Emergency intervention to prevent cholera and mitigate the spread of the epidemic

To fight the cholera epidemic in usually non-affected, therefore unprepared areas of central and eastern Chad, notably in refugee and IDP settlements, which are vulnerable to health crises, this 4-month project aims to prevent the cholera epidemic from spreading through 9,600 man days of community agent training to epidemic control activities, setting up quarantine zones in health centers, granting better access to safe water and sanitation in three cholera treatment centers, and disinfecting the homes of cholera patients and raising awareness of members of their community. The action’s direct beneficiaries include the most vulnerable populations in terms of access to water and hygiene items, approximately 120,000 people.
