The emergency in Haiti: Decent living conditions

Jacmel January 13, 2010 – Just on the day after the earthquake, our teams in country have built 8 emergency latrines to respond to the needs of 1,800 people. A total of 7,000 people will benefit from access to sanitary facilities set up by ACTED. The hygiene conditions in the grouping areas, particularly in the small town of Jacmel, remains fragile a week after the earthquake. The needs are dire in this remote city, the trip to the capital-city lasts 8 hours long.

The most pressing task in Jacmel is hence to guarantee the populations’ access to drinking water, to sanitize the grouping areas and to build shower clusters for men and for women.

Thanks to your support and our local partnerships in country, the ACTED teams are involved in assisting the disaster-affected populations of Port-au-Prince and of the cities of Léogane and Jacmel. In consequence, tens of thousands people can thus eat, drink and benefit from a shelter.

The emergency continues, do not hesitate to disseminate our actions and to send your donations.
