Celebrating Global Hand Washing Day in Western Bahr el-Ghazal

WAU [ACTED News] – ACTED has recently completed the construction of latrines and hand-washing facilities in 30 schools in the region of Western Bahr el-Ghazal. On Monday, 15th October 2012, 20 local schools took part in celebrations organised by ACTED for Global Hand-Washing Day. This was the occasion to stress the importance of good hand-washing and overall hygiene in preventing water-borne diseases and improving the rates of mortality for children under the age of 5.

In the presence of local government representatives, students took part in a parade alongside the Wau big-band and presented, with the help of ACTED hygiene promoters, hand-washing songs and plays to the members of the community present.
