Capacity building on drought resilience for the breeders in oPT
A severe 2009 drought left West Bank sheep and goat breeders struggling to meet high fodder and water costs. Many faced the prospect of selling their flocks and losing their only livelihoods. On March 31th 2010, ACTED concluded a nine-month FAO-funded drought relief project, which resulted in 292 breeders in the Hebron and Bethlehem areas receiving over 580 tons of emergency fodder and 1,500 drought-resistant shrubs. This assistance with feeding expenses allowed breeders to maintain their flocks. ACTED also provided animal health training, which will enable breeders to boost productivity.
