Camp Management in spontaneous settlements in Leogane
This 6-month project implemented in 3 spontaneous settlements in the city center of Leogane aims at managing and coordinating the global humanitarian response to the IDPs. The first goal is to ensure coordinated and global management of the aid respecting internationally recognized standards thanks to: the implementation or the reinforcement of a Camp Management Committee, women involvement, regular meetings with local authorities, the creation of a database which identifies humanitarian actors in the camps, needs, gaps and evaluations. The second goal is to ensure the provision and maintenance of relevant facilities, the adequate zoning of the camps in order to avoid duplications and to ensure the reduction of the populations vulnerability. This goal will be followed by the installation of 86 additional water and sanitation facilities (2 or 3 “bladders” per camp, 10 and 13 latrines, 10 bathing spaces, waste collection points, laundry areas and hand-washing facilities) and by hygiene promotion towards the training of 100 trainers per camp. Finally, 31,620 man/days of employment will be generated through Cash For Work schemes. In all, about 7,000 individuals will benefit from the project.
