Bleak outlook for food security in Southern Somalia

NAIROBI [ACTED News] – The current and projected food security situation in Southern Somalia remains in crisis according to a recently published Oxfam report. Statistics show that the average family of eight is spending the equivalent of just 50 cents per person per day on food. This is well below the poverty line of $1 per person a day. The impact of this situation is evident as 236,000 children across Somalia remain acutely malnourished, with southern Somalia hosting around 70 percent of the acutely malnourished children in the country.

ACTED currently delivers aid to Somali populations living in the South Central region and remains mobilised with the aim of helping populations in need.
