Alliance2015: In action for Pakistan

ACTED teams have provided support to 8.2 million people in Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD [ACTED News] – A video outlining the work of ACTED and its Alliance2015 partners in response to the 2010 and 2011 floods in Pakistan, now available online, shows the activities implemented over the past two years to meet the emergency and early recovery needs of flood-affected populations in five of Pakistan’s seven provinces. All Alliance2015 partners active in Pakistan (ACTED, CESVI, Concern, People In Need and Welthungerhilfe) and the European Commission Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Department detail the context, operations and issues at stake during the response. Also available are details of the implementation modalities used through the project, including cash for work and home-based vocational training for women, and vibrant pictures of the floods and individuals affected.

Pakistani populations can now look a bit more to the future. In 2010 and 2011, Pakistan suffered the worst flooding in over 80 years. More than 26 million people were affected by the flood, over 2,200 people were killed, more than 2.5 million hectares of arable land were destroyed and 6.5 million heads of livestock were lost. Alliance2015 partners on the ground built 6,500 shelters with the participation of the local population. Over 100,000 families were supported in many sectors such as agriculture, livestock, water and sanitation.

Alliance2015 is a partnership of seven like-minded non-government organizations working in the field of development cooperation. The Alliance members are CESVI from Italy, Concern Worldwide from Ireland, Welthungerhilfe from Germany, Hivos from the Netherlands, IBIS from Denmark, People In Need from the Czech Republic and ACTED from France, who became a full member in June 2009.
