ACTED supports the Libyan Ministry of Education to assess the status of the education system
TRIPOLI [ACTED News] - 4,800 schools across Libya have undergone a nationwide schools assessment during which, the REACH assessment and mapping tool, used to support local government actors with their annual budgeting and planning processes, was used. This tool was deployed to Libya in November 2011 to support the Ministry of Education (MoE) in the implementation of a nationwide schools assessment. This assessment was conducted by a team of over 300 people, made up of staff from the Ministry of Education and ACTED/REACH. The assessment enabled the collection of baseline data on the status of the Libyan education system in the aftermath of the 2011 crisis. The information collected through the assessment, in addition to an interactive web map, has been handed over to the Ministry of Education to assist in the development of comprehensive and needs based educational policies. A final report detailing the findings of the assessment, and outlining a set of preliminary policy recommendations, is currently being finalised for publication by ACTED/REACH in cooperation with the Libyan Ministry of Education and UNICEF.
