ACTED steps up its food distributions to the orphanages of Port-au-Prince
ACTED teams have today supplied the orphanages of the capital-city which were still waiting for food assistance.
A joyful atmosphere fills Agape orphanage in Port-au-Prince. Its 85 children will eat a full meal thanks to ACTED’s work and the commitment of its staff in delivering timely food supplies. Tonight’s meal is made of beans, rice, sugar, oil and anti-malnutrition treatments. Until today, the orphanage was not registered on UNICEF’s inventory, but through ACTED’s spotting they were eventually recognized as a beneficiary institution.
Agape’s original building collapsed with the earthquake three weeks ago and since then, the director has been struggling to deal with the situation. Her husband rented a house in Central Port-au-Prince to host the children. She rents a bus that takes the children to school. In the orphanage’s difficult financial situation, the help from ACTED and the WFP is most welcomed. The provided food items will allow them to eat healthy meals for fifteen days, and hence commit to reconstructing the orphanage.
Every day, ACTED strengthens its assistance to Port-au-Prince orphanages; tomorrow, more than 300 children should benefit from this assistance.
