ACTED launches a new project on integrated rural development in Sri Lanka

ACTED is teaming up with Handicap International and several local partners to start a four-year project that aims at reducing the poverty level in the Central and Uva Provinces in Sri Lanka. By improving the capacities of target Small and Medium Entreprises, strengthening the quality of and linkages among business development services’ providers, and engaging local governments and civil society organizations (CSOs) in locally-led governance, the project will contribute to the socio-economic development of the target areas. Stakeholders from the government, institutional, economic and social layers will work together on an integrated project that will strive to build an enabling environment for sustainable and inclusive growth.

ACTED and its partners will directly target 320 small enterprises, 80 CSOs, 60 business development services’ providers, and 116 government and local authorities. The project will aim to create approximately 2,000 new jobs, in particular for women and vulnerable groups like persons with disabilities and plantation workers to increase their employability.
